Hi only reason I'm putting this on here is if anyone is stuck on gearbox oil choice I cannot recommend Millers TRX 75/90 highly enough, I changed all the fluids in our Stag ready for the winter and after pondering what gearbox oil to choose eventually thanks to a comment made by a fellow Stag owner that he supports a british company I chose Millers. Today is the first chance I've had to drive the Stag since and I'm amazed at the difference in the gearbox. The changes are 100% smoother, overdrive better but above all not a sound from the box at all! Hope this helps someone in someway!

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that, it's very helpful to me.
I want to replace my gearbox oil soon and was undecided as to what to use.
I'm a big fan of Millers Classic 20w50 Semi Synthetic which I reckon is even better than VR1 so I'm definitely up for the Millers g'box oil if you've found it good.
Cheers
Julian

Julian? I believe this is what Wards sells (the Classic Sport?). Saying that, there is alot of conjecture as to whether fully synthetics are suitable for older cars if you read many of the current classic publications (Classic Car Monthly for example this month) and through many of the specialists (Classic Oils and Opie Oils).

I wouldn't want to use fully synthetic in my Stag but this stuff is specifically semi synthetic. I reckon it gives the best of both worlds to an older engine.
Also, Millers specialise in older cars and they seem to know what they're doing. Btw this semi synthetic has something like 1200 ppm ZDDP
I'd be very interested to hear others thoughts or experiences - good or bad.
Cheers
Julian

I know my last 944 was wrecked allegedly (or at least the garage thought it was partly to blame) by the PO using Mobil 1 0W40 (Not exactly ideal when Porsche specified 20W50 or 15W40 at the time in combination with the PO taking the car to Britanny during the summer months). Again, another friend of mine swore by Mobil1's 0W40 in everything (from Fords which were only really meant to run 5W30 to Golfs which should run 10W40 to 10W60 depending on use).
It seems a number of Fiat 5 pot owners damaged their engines this way too...
