    Core plug removal

    Hi everyone

After pressure testing my cooling system i have found a dodgy core plug passing air thankfully it`s the one between sparkplugs 1-3, access isn`t to bad but i can`t get egnough swing with a hammer to release it, is there any other way of getting them out and an easyer way of getting back in while in situ.

    Cheers

Hi Adrian. regards getting them out you can, if you have the room, drill a hole to take a large self taper which you can then pull on with mole grips or use to pull it out with a lever.

        Adrian,
if its only a little leak try tapping it it in a bit more, they tend to seal up in a bit. if you do have to pull it be careful not to mark the bore they have (over here they call them freeze plugs) do a search a freeze plug tool for installing them in place you should be able to get them in the UK, I watched the mechanic do a few for me on another car and they work very well. If you do not want to go that route a socket that fits just inside the plug will work i also used a big bar to push against the plug sort of tapping and pushing. They are a bit of a pain to do inplace.

        cheers stuart
