    Brake Pads.

Hi, does anyone know of somebody discounting Green Stuff pads ? Caught a quick look at the inside face of the discs today, and I'm horrified. Three months ago they were OK. GRRRRR

Are you in a hurry Martin ?

I fitted some a couple of thousand miles ago but am planning to change them for Mintex pads soon. You're welcome to my slightly used ones if you want them.

      Cheers

Sorry to butt in, but what is the difference between normal pads and Green Stuff pads other than the colour? And are they any good and worth updating to?

          Cheers Steve

In my opinion, for what it's worth, they work well from cold, don't grab, aren't affected too much by fade and don't chuck out as much dust onto the wheels as some other pads.

If the disc face is knackered Martin you need new discs or a reface?

Hi Steve, pretty much as John says, I've found they don't fade, they come with a thin abrasive layer to bed them in quickly, there's little dust, and they last longer than they have any right to. I'm on my second set (which the discs have now damaged)

Thanks for the offer Julian, much appreciated. but as I'm fitting new discs I'll go for new pads. Martin.

Had them on my MG, going to fit them to the stag over winter, fitted standard pads but the brake dust thrown over the front wheels is a pain

Hi Andy, I got this set from TSSC, they were discounting them out for £24, bit his arm off, but they don't list them now, or much else in the way of Stag stuff either. Still, I'll give him a bell in the morning. Martin.

Hi Dave, the local group are great, a lot of us are members of both, but the club itself has little interest in Stags, so I would be reluctant to recommend them.

I found exactly this on many other cars with the Greenstuff Pads (they were Hot Hatches I admit: Pug 205 GTi, 306 GTi-6, Renault Clio 172 (they were horrific on that car)). Going to Mintex M1144s on two of the mentioned cars (the 205 and the Clio) transformed the brakes, to the extent where I could near enough have my cake and eat it . Great all round performance. Even the 'OE quality' EBCs on my daily did not inspire much confidence in comparison to the motor factors usual suspects.

It is strange because on the bikes they seem to work so well, albeit have a very short life.

Cheap Mintex M1144s are not, but I believe the Mk1 Transit pads (for which Mintex stock them) will also fit ).

I always found 1144 pads to have lower cold bite, I am unsure that any form of "uprated" pad is actually needed for normal street driving. But the green stuff pads certainly do cut down on dust.

Martin - why exactly have your disc inner faces corroded? Unless the car has just not been used for some time, (and then why are the outer faces not similarly afflicted?) it must hint at a fault of some kind, surely? Pad backplate jammed in the caliper or stuck piston? Replace the discs, sure, but cure the underlying fault too.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
