    postage scam beware

    Subject: Fw: Postal Scam

    Postal Scam:

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching:

It has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

    Thanks Alan.
If this is fresh information it seems to be a recurrent scam. Just mentioned it to my wife who now tells me she received similar information last Christmas.

Hi Alan. It is a hoax, if you Google PDS the scam was shut down 7 or so years ago. Lots of these things seem to go around. They are known as chain emails.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

There are new scams popping up all the time and you do need to be constantly vigilant as they become more sophisticated, so it is always worth bringing them to everyones attention but I do tend to google them first.

There are multiple e mails forwarded like this PDS mail scam. No need to beat yourself up but when the latest e mail "pass this on imminent death/robberey" etc I always check with Hoax-Slayer website.
They list thousands of these scams hoaxes etc and their search facility is easy to use and comprehensive. Interestingly they describe the forwarding of the e mails as this.

              Detailed Analysis
This email warning has been circulated since the end of 2005. Recent submissions indicate that the warning is once again rapidly gaining momentum. The information in the original 2006 version of the message was mostly factual. However, the particular scam described in the message was shut down at the end of 2005 and the information is no longer relevant. The continued forwarding of this warning to others is now utterly pointless and counterproductive.
