It still does it for me

I've had my car for 4 years now, I live in a terraced house so no garage which means I rent one about a mile away. went and got the car out today for the weekend (not used it for a few weeks) and still, after 4 years, when I open the garage door I get the same feeling of euphoria as I did the first day I set eyes on it and drove it home from Essex.

    One very happy, sad git

    Ian

Mine's still in bits (well both actually) and I still love to look at them. Sad I know but there you have it

Understand and sympathise every word Ian, I'm just the same, though if I didn't see the old girl for two weeks I'd be showing serious withdrawal symptoms. Martin.

I got two now, even sadder! Actually, the stag suspension has not settled yet, so she looks a bit odd sitting up there with the Tiger squatting way down (as they do).

I know exactly what you mean Ian. The last few ('orribly wet 'n windy) days I've been running around in a VW CC as a courtesy car whilst my A3 was in having the front bumper sorted - a nice lady in a car with a towbar ran backwards into it whilst stationary recently. Whilst this VW has all the 'bells and whistles' and is a nice place to be, I couldn't stop myself from getting the Stag out today just for an otherwise pointless drive just because the weather is fine and all the salt has been washed away in the floods. Great.

BTW. I can't help wondering what the British Army chappies who rescued VW in 1945 would think of a 'People's Car' that costs in excess of £30k and is well into the realms of luxury motoring

It was my first time with one of these automatic parking brake systems and 'stop-start' engine management. I fear the worst in a few years' time when these systems start to play up..........

Dave, my Wife's VW Tiguan has the stop/start, you soon get used to it. It can be switched off as I'm sure you know but you can control what it does with the amount of pressure you apply to the brake pedal. Now the auto park function is something to behold, (watching steering wheel do it's own thing) I love it just for the novelty factor

              Ian.

Mine just never, ever stops banging on the garage door, wanting to go out to play.
And I never, ever, tire of the games.
                Or the noise

It is an addiction thing, I bought my Stag in 1982 that's 30 years ago now, it was just 7 years old, still love it to bits-part of the family. (there's been a few others come & go in between though)

I know how you feel Ian
I have mine stored in My Dads garage at the moment, whilst the Mini restoration has taken over mine, so each weekend when I can I drive 20 miles there and 20 back just to take the Stag out for a spin Even though its been two or three weeks she still starts first go and puts that silly smile on my face, and you can't beat the smell and sound of a good old V8 petrol engine when you run a dirty diesel most of the time
Even my Mum and Dad have come out with me for a drive in the old girl they think she's lovely. Sadly the tax runs out at the end of the month so I will have to lay her up till the spring and get stuck in on the damn mini! Should have got those two experts from Classic Car Resto to do it I would have had in back on the road in a week then At least I am now at the rebuilding stage and have just refitted the rear subframe and brake lines, getting cold in the garage now though!!
                      Cheers Glyn

I am the same with mine... I could not live without it.

I have driven it every day for nearly five years now and it is still something very special. I reset the trip counter last Saturday morning and tonight it reads 654 miles!!! That would drive me mad in most other cars!
Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!

Blimey Brian. That's not far off my average monthly miles in all my cars put together!

Only had mine 6 years and I know I wouldn't want to be without it! It has the hard top on at present because I've lost storage for it, it looks really good, even if the hard top is pas it's best!!

It's the longest I've ever kept a car!

Drive a VW Caddy for my day job and can't wait to drive the Stag at weekends

(and yes, I do just go into the garage just for a look, wife thinks I'm sad)
