    Catch can

This is for anybody that has fitted a weber conversion to their stag and had problems with routing the crankcase vapour through the air filter, this in my case was a contaminated air filter, the answer is to fit a catch can, i have covered 1000's of miles since fitting it without any problems.
I have posted a few photo's on my profile page of the set up, for anyone interested the parts were sourced from a site on ebay, you can pm for the details....Steve

I had to do the same. Russ suggested a flame trap in the breather pipe before the air filter. I don't know the part number but it was from a Rover V8.

Hello John i check the catch can every 6 weeks or so and get about half a cup from it, after i fitted the weber i really wanted the crank vapour to be removed by a similar route to the stroms as opposed to running a pipe to air, so after plumbing it to the underside of the air filter i was really disappointed when the air filter became clogged with gunk, i do not consider my engine to be excessive in crank gas, the oil filler cap is spotless.
i saw the catch cans on ebay and researched a bit on the net and found out they are widely used on classic cars......Steve

An alternative to catch tank is to use the same set up as used on a Ford V6. I found a spacer plate on eBay with a piece of pipe and valve thingy, (pics in my album) unfortunately it raised my carb too much due to the way my manifold has been modified. So instead I teed into the servo pipe, so the breather feeds into the inlet manifold via this route using the valve which seems to restrict the flow at high vacuum. It works well but might not suit heavy breathers?

Some bikers might say that its car drivers who are the menace BTW!

Tempting fate here but been taken out twice by a car driver, 1st when I was stationary at traffic lights and second time someone turned right in front of me because he was frustrated being stuck in a Jam.

Hello Kevin i had heard of that modification of crank case vapour through the servo and into the manifold, but the catch can seemed the easier route for me, as for bikes its like the tour de france round here at week ends teams of twenty or so all around our small lanes three across the road thats a menace, bring in a push bike tax i say, and an MOTfor bikes, you may have to fart at will to pass the emission test though ...Steve

Been riding bikes since I was 16 Steve, have a Triumph Sprint ST 1050 at the moment and have no intention of parting with it.

I prefer motorbikes to cycles, but you see irresponsible and dangerous behavior from all classes of road user.

To true kev i nearly got rammed of the road today in north weald airfield market car park, in a car park unbelievable, trout had a panic attack, brat three dropped her cake and messed up her mascara as i skillfully messed the grass up whilst shouting abuse out the window....that sorted it, think i got more ffff's in than him....Steve

On my last car when I had a holley on it, I adapted the other cam cover with a pcv valve from rover v8 into a catch can and the carb had a pcv take off as well

has the weber not got a pcv take off??

still had oil leaks where I should not have them, hence the return to stroms

Hello Alan your engine bay on your previous car looked lovely and tidy and you made an excellent job of fitting the catch can.
As far as i know the weber has no pcv take off, but the system i have seems to work fine without any leaks so i am in no hurry to return to my strombergs.....Steve
