A New Life for My 1972 Mk1 Stag

I dont know much about the car's history except that the previous owner bought this car to restore, but had to abandon the project as he had been posted abroad for about 4 years. When I bought it 18 months ago it was just a painted rolling shell, with a rebuilt engine (not fitted) and needed putting back together. Unfortunately the engine turned out to be siezed as it had been stored in a damp shed, but luckily I managed to free it off, fitted it to the car and so far it seems to be running well.

I blogged all the trials and tribulations of my resto in a previous forum post (Teal Blue Stag etc).

The DVLA database of the vehicle shows last date of liability as Feb 1983, so it must have been off the road for nearly 30 years. But that I am glad to say is no longer the case.

Today it passed its MOT. No advisories!

Now I can go to the LVLO to get it re-registered as a Historic Vehicle and get my free tax disk. There are still a few niggles to sort out but the car is pretty useable. Roll on 2013 and the summer.

Did you manage to stop your leak from the power steering?

Well done on the MOT though, I guess you will be really looking forward to any sunny days that come our way.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

                  Congratulations Chris,
My 72 Stag has only been off the road since 1994. Must admit I had forgotten about changing the taxation class, it still says PLG on my logbook.
Hopefully it will be on the road sometime next year

Thanks guys, and yes I am chuffed. Its always good to get a project 'finished', especially one involving a stag. At least the car is now legally mobile (when I get the tax disk), plus I have agreed value insurance cover.

Although the MOT is a major milestone to tick off, not surprisingly there are still teething troubles to sort out, so you can be sure I will be back here boring some of you about all the niggles quite soon

PS Keith; I am not sure it had stopped completely but it seemed a lot better so I refitted the gaiter tightly this morning and decided to just go for it. But I will be surprised if theres not some more fluid in the gaiter next time I check!

Always great to see hard work and perseverance end up in another usable classic. Well done.
