If from cold is fine at 40-50psi on tickover, would teh VR1 oil make much difference to when ist hot compared to normal oils? I am using 20/50 mineral
Andrew, I use VR1 now and there is no noticeable drop when hot to cold running but I would say that if you hit over 50psi you run the risk of the tensioners becoming too tight and running the chains - i'd leave alone but use VR1 - expensive but the best!
See you Saturday
Cheers,
OK, thanks to all, I am now happy with my oil pressure and take the point about it not to be too high
This is what I would like to get, anyone fitted one?

Similar to my Smiths MGB gauge but mine is a dual water temp and oil pressure - cannot fault it and it gives a true temp reading from a capllilary unlike the useless electric job fitted as standard.
Provided it's not snowing or raining tooo hard i'll bring the car on Saturday and you can have a look in between the beer, wine and food...
I'll try the VR1 oil I think first if the deal is still on with Eurocarparts
Thanks, but dont worry about bringing the car along as Dad has teh same gauge you are talking about and I have seen it. Thanks all the same and see you Saturday. Dont worry, you havent got an award this year

Andrew, they always have a deal. The current deal needs you to enter midmonth31 on the website in the checkout voucher box thingy. They will even deliver for free. Mine took 2 days and came well wrapped. £22 for 5l - bargain
They also have a reversing bleepy thing on offer at £24 so I got one of those for SWBOs VW.

Just a warning from a hydraulics engineer.....
you should only use a pressure gauge to 75% of its full scale defelection .. ie its highest marked reading. (Especially a bourbon tube type gauge ie not electric) You can stretch the bourbon tube (A waste of good bourbon in my book) and then your gauge wont read accurately anyway. If you regularly see 50 psi then you should be looking for a 100 psi gauge to stay in the comfort zone and then your needle will always point straight up or down and not at a wonky worrying angle
