    Windscreen and rubber seal

Gent's looks like Santa is going to supply me with a new windscrean for Xmas to replace the badly scratched one I have.
Now my good lady wife has found a guy local to us who know's how to fit these, as the very nice guy from Autoglass admitted that his guys would not know how to fit a Stag screan correctly, and suggested that we contact this guy from Inverurie. This guy will also etch it with the car registration number so that it is the same as the side ones.
Now I'm not sure what type of screen to put in, clear, green tint, or the one with the blue tint at the top.
    Whats your thoughts

The windscreen was removed when I had the car sprayed some 4 x years ago and a new seal was bought at that time. Will I have to purchase a brand new one or can I use the one thats in. It has no cracking or marks on it. Your thoughts as far as windscreen colour would be appreciated

Hi Mike, what colour are the side windows and those in the hard top ? Surely they should match ?
I'd be inclined to get a new rubber, there have been some about for a while that are a tad too small, and difficult to seal. I know of at least one supplier who has the correct size. Can your guy cope with the stainless trim ? they're made of unobtainium you know. Martin.

      Hi
The new rubber i bought was to small so a stretched it for a week and its fine, auto glass fitted mine with no probs 2 hours to get the chrome on, but he did it. Even though lots of peeps told me that it takes some old guys that have had stags for 500 years to fit them.
I must take my hat off to the guy who fitted mine and he is only 24 years old, think its down to weather the fitter can be axxed or not.
      Good luck

He does sound like a good'n, but I think you were lucky ! The Northampton lot mucked mine up, I had to pay an "old boy" to refit it. One question, if he'd ruined the polished trim, which is easy to do, would they have replaced it ? and if so, from where ? Martin.

They told me if it was damaged they would have to get new i said you can't and they agreed to to let me find a good set and they would be happy to pay, can't complain at that, maybe lucky but i still think its down to the fitter.

It appears you can only get new Mk 2 rubber seals now therefore you may also need new chrome strips to suit.

I believe there were only two sizes, the standard Stag and the fastback.

You can just make out that the quarter light comes to a point, showing that the windscreen is higher. Martin.

South East Trimmings use a profile shot of the Fastback Stag on their current advert - page 93 of the November Stag Mag.

Well guys the wind screen fella came round to double check what colour the windscreen was yesterday, because I am still at work overseas. He has confirmed that it is a slightly tinted green type and he can supply and fit. The glass all round seems to be the original. The etching he says he can do and will try and match it to the side windows.
To be honest I had not really noticed that the glass was slightly tinted.
Well that's my Christmas sorted out now, roll on Santa coming (-:

                            Hi Mike,

Glad to hear that seems to be going ok - I hope your guy will be able to do the screen, and chromes, withut too much difficulty.

As for the glass being original, this can be easily checked. Every piece of glass has the 9 letter word TOUGHENED on it. There will be a dot under one of those letters which corresponds to the year of manufacture of the glass.

                            Ie If the dot is under the T, it's 71, if it's under the H, it's 75 - if there isn't one it's 1970. Simples !

They were all the same (maybe one different) fom new and maybe the odd one might have been changed cos of breakage.

                            Cheers.

                            Julian

Didn't realise there would be more than one size, thought there may be a differance in the chrome strip.
