Spin on oil filters

About to change the oil on my 73 Stag,TV8 which has a spin on conversion not fitted by me since this is a mod there is no reference to the oil filter in official publications.
When in UK I purchased 2 oil filters UNIPART 180 GFE from a general Auto parts supplier but looking on various threads here there is no mention of that particular filter before I use it can someone tell me if its correct ?

I have a GFE 180 on the shelf in my garage waiting to be fitted - and mine came from Paddocks. So probably a safe bet yours is OK.

If you don't know how long the spin-on adapter has been fitted, I suggest you replace the oil seals between the adapter and the block. They may be quite old by now. JPS155SK at James Paddock. RB7016 S-KIT at Rimmers. Other suppliers have them.

LDparts list GFE173 as the oil filter. Paddocks list GFE180. Essentially the same. Here is a link to a cross-reference that may help:

From a previous answer of mine:

i use a GFE173 on mine, but i would have no problem using any of these:

BL/Rover/Unipart GFE173 , GFE180 or GFE166, GFE348
Fram PH2964
Champion C104
Halfords HOF200

I think Peter at LD now supplies the 348 rather than the 173.

GFE 348 has superseded GFE180.

Out of that list of filters I would not use the Halfords filter personally. It lacks an anti drain valve and bypass valve which the Fram and Unipart filters do have. Even the stock filter arrangement has a bypass valve .

the anti-drain valve is not a big issue for the Stag (assuming a TV8) given that it hangs upside down the oil isn't going to drain anywhere.
Given the OP's location (which i didn't notice at first ... doh!) i doubt the HOF will be the most accessible option
