What sort of engine number is this?

Just browsing through some of the documentation for my Stag.

The engine number on the V5c is correct i.e. LF 24723 ESS as I understand that this is an exchange engine.

However, amongst the old documents I have is a copy of an "Application For A Licence For A New Motor Vehicle" dated 16/12/1975, the engine number is recorded as "LF HEA". What does that mean?

Incidentally, the original dealer was Rossleigh in Edinburgh and the first owner was Mountain Management Ltd, Grosvenor Street, London W1. Surely there was a closer BL dealer?

Twelve months tax was just £40.00!!

The V5C for my Stag lists the engine number as LFHEA.
I can't find the number on the engine to check (I know it's near the dizzy, somewhere...)
    Ross. Perth WA.

My V5c is the same, it is a generic number, the real number is LF******HEA. (No of asterisks guessed!)

Could come in handy, it means almost any Stag engine could be swapped in/out without affecting the V5!

My Stag was first registered in August 1973. I still have a copy of the registration document which states the engine No. as LF02301HE. This is just a couple of years before your first registration so I hope the information is of help.
