Hard Top Rear Window

Hi All
I'm trying to re-assemble the hard top with a new rear window seal. There seem to be rivet holes in the bottom corners of the S.steel trim pieces. There are no matching holes in the bottom trim piece or the hard top itself. So what am I supposed to do with this??

You're not going to like this as it's an engineering nadir

They're held by a self tapping screw with a hole through the rubber and in the hardtop Also, if you don't already have a hole in the hardtop, you can't usually drill it until everything's in place and then it's too late to paint the hole

I used stainless steel screws with loads of cavity wax sprayed inside.

I wonder where the old holes went to in my hardtop. Maybe the body shop filled them in.

They were probably rusted away - I wonder why

It does seem like the designers hadn't done this before and were short on ideas.

Be careful.
When that drill bit goes through the trim & into the rubber is veeeeery close to the glass.
One touch & well......... shattered glass.
I had my rear window fitted a few weeks ago & it was pretty damn nerve racking I can tell you.
The Glass man & Body shop man were scratching their heads, but I removed the screen last year & saved the chrome screws to prove to them that it does fit like that.
It was all fine though.
