Early Cars - still discovering differences

I have had quite a few Mk1 hoods in for refurb in the past, but the latest is different again. This one has a straight end at the back of the side rail which goes above the b-post. All other frames bend inwards there. The other difference is that the catch strikers dont have a top hat on them, just a plain bar. This must be quite rare as its the first I have come across.

Any obvious reason to suggest that the frames were inferior and hence later modified?

On this early one the only reason I can think of changing the design was to stop the catch dropping off the end of the striker, but the frame would have to bend off centre quite a lot to do that.
