    Switches

    HI Guys

    Me again.

Can anyone send me a pic with the switch for the rear fog lights, mine does not have any but I feel they may be worth fitting.

Just not sure of a suitable location for the switch.

    Thanks

    Richard

I don't think that fog lights were ever a standard fit on the Stag. If you wish to add fog lights to the rear of your car then where you put the switch is entirely up to your own choice.

Hi Richard, as Rod says, they were never fitted to the Stag but are a very good idea, lots have them. If you look under the dash on the right hand side, you'll see, or feel, a threaded hole that was used for the bonnet release, as I refuse point blank to drill holes in my car, that's what I suggest for a bracket, it also makes the switch/s invisible to everyone but the driver. Cheers, Martin.

If, like many owners, you don't use a hardtop, or do but not the heated rear window, you could use the hrw switch, but remember that you should have a telltale light to let you know the fogs are on. You can get switches with that built in.

          Here we go!

One of the best inventions or addition (for a better description) on a car, heated rear window.

          Worst ever, rear fog lights.

More down to operator error, but we really don't have many if any times in this country that rear fog lights need to be used. I can only remember once, in the 80's that the fog was so thick, you could hardly see your hand in front of you, but now, a bit of mist, some drizzly rain and BANG, on go the fog lamps, in my opinion causing more dazzle than deemed necessary and confusing with brake lights.

The more annoying problem is when the mist has gone, the lights are still on. There should be a great big light right in view of the driver or a buzzer warning informing the driver to turn the bl**dy things off!

If you can still see the tail lights way ahead, which you normally can, why do you need fog lights?

          Bah humbug!
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Good on you Jeff. I thought I was the only person who thought that.

When I used the M4 every day there were one or two days a year that I needed them but, that apart, hardly ever.

When I got my Stag I removed the fitted rear fogs as I reckoned that a) I'd probably never need them & b) they spoiled its looks.

            Cheers

            Julian

Hey, they are useful in heavy snow and torrential rain too!!!!

Personally I'm eternally grateful to the Volvo drivers who leave them on when doing 30mph in the middle lane off an empty motorway

My Stag has fog lights fitted, I've only ever turned them on to see that they work and only left them in place as I'm too lazy to remove them and don't mind the looks.

                    Hi guys
Thanks for your comments and as I spend my days out on the road I understand your niggles. I also understand the Highway Code unlike the bump ties who have them on sit in the middle lane and forget they have indicators! Hehe

I was more interested as to locations for addional switches. I saw a stag some years ago with some front spots fitted and was thinking about fitting some

                    Regards

                    Richard

                      Richard,

How old is your Stag? The Mk1 had a different master light switch with a foglight position. All stags have a foglight wire running to the front - Red with Orange tracer. On the Mk1 it is connected to the master light switch and emerges on the front chassis rail near the expansion bottle. On later cars it is behind the front valance on the near side, with the other end behind the carpet on the tunnel near the centre console, driver's side.

Indeed to answer your question my fog light switch is fitted below the dash to the left of the steering column.

Then you should have the extra position on the master light switch. IIRC it is past the headlights position - 3rd click. You should also have one anti-clockwise position from 'off' which is the parking lights - this switches on the offside sidelights only.
