    engine cut out

    Hi Guys
    Rebuilt engine runs sweet as a nut at 1500 2000 revs, tick over a little lumpy, but when i rev her up to 2000 revs and then take my foot off she goes back to tick over the goes lumpy for a split second then cuts out, any ideas.
    Off xmas shopping till 8 yuck, then back on line

      Also could be an air leak in the crankcase ventilation system. Have you got that all piped up? When properly done, just taking off the oil filler cap should cause the engine to stall, or nearly so.
      Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

        She was ok the other day then had to redo the inlet manifold gaskets, so its looking like a breather pipe somewhere, maybe

          Sounds like breathers to me. With the engine ticking over, remove the oil filler cap. If nothing changes it's the breathers. If it does, then over to the next guy!!!

            I had issues with a dizzy cap caused rough idle and stalled like your did.

            Do the oil filler trick first to confirm no air leaks

              Hi Guys
              Have checked the breathers all fine, motor looses revs with filler cap off, new dizzy cap, so its down to the carbs, coupld it be crap in there or something else

                Whatever you do don't crap in the carbs!

                      Hiya, it's either a failing spark, eg, coil, or fuel starvation, that could be lots of things, but the main culprits are, crap in the tank, or the pump valves, a failing pump (my favourite) blocked filter, collapsed pipes from the filter to the carbs, jammed needle valves (unlikely but possible) holed diaphragms, or needle/s coming out of it/their holder/s.                             Hi Martin
                            Hope your still on line, I took the carb pistons out and found one needle two turns in from the piston face and the other was flush, now just going to use my gunson gas tester to set mixture, but getting confused as to the co setting.
                            The normal setting for the machine in fresh air is 2.0% so what reading should i have when setting mixture, have read on here 0.5%. Is that what the machine should read or is is 0.5% either side of the 2.0%.

                              The basic setting is 2% in fresh air, then you need to set the exhaust reading to between 2.5% & 4.5%, I normally aim for a middle reading of 3.5%. Beware though a slight adjustment has a big difference in the read- out
