Cigarette lighter electrical connection

Hi everyone,
Ok, I give up.

I've been trying to clean up and renew electrical connections etc throughout the car. I ordered a new lighter from one of the suppliers, can't remember which one. It came with a different connection than the old one with a spade. Been trying to figure this out, but how do I wire this up? Sorry, it's probably a very basic question for you guys.

Guess:

+ve line to the centre pin via a bullet connector and sleeve, negative earth via body?

Tanya, you will probably have to make up an adapter to connect (live feed) to the centre pin. whatever you use make sure it is a really good tight fit because they take a lot of current (several amps). I usually make do with a round/bullet type connector which I 'adjust' with a pair of pliers or you might be able to find a connector an an auto store.
PS I notice it has a lense for the lamp which is nice as many dont have them.

did they send the shroud for the bulb too Tanya, this also has a feed for it, can't remember what colour it is though, i'm sure someone will though

Was thinking about charging my phone! That's a good point about the negative, boy not sure how that will work, will have to look again. I'm trying to find a bullet connector that works, but they don't appear to come in different sizes??? I bought 4mm from the UK, but they are too big.
Yes, there was a new light with a length of wire and I can wire that up with a butt connector.

Please do not post a picture of the butt connector.

As for the -ve earth - does this lighter have a nut at the rear to hold it in position? if so you can trap a wire under that. Or solder a connection to the body somewhere convenient.

The shroud for the lighter has a spade terminal for the earth, just like the original, so all good there. Just the +ve terminal is the difficult one.
Sorry for any confusion, I left the rest of the lighter with the car which is a mile away from home.

Hi Tanya,

just a thought, with a long nose pair of pliers pull out the rounded end of a bullet connector into a tube shape, then use some wire crimpers and close it up a little, would that help?

Ok, I'll try that. Will have to wait until next week now. Back to work and on emergency call overnight for a week, so won't have any time to play with the car!
