    Winter Equinox Celibrations

    Hi all,
As it appears that the majority of us are all still here, bloody Mayans!

I thought I'd share with you the tidings that the shortest daylight day of the year is upon us! I, for one, am already looking forward to the days drawing out and hopefully warmer sunnier Stag filled days to come.

By the way happy Christmas to you all.

End of the world or not - I still gave the Stag a bath - not having it floating about in space dirty

He He very funny. (us Too)

At least with the 'too many cars not enough time' thing, you're close to Paddocks! or have they entered into a different space time continuum? hang on no thats me.

Err, sorry to point this out John, but the Equinoxes occur in Spring (Vernal Equinox around 21st March) and Autumn (around 21st Sept). This is when day and night is equal as the sun's orbit crosses the equator.

The longest and shortest days are the Solstices - Summer (N. Hemisphere around 21st June) and Winter (N. Hemisphere around 21st Dec).

BTW, before we get too complacent about the Mayan prediction, it is still only 1.35pm over there. Still plenty of time before.............................

              Merry Christmas anyway.........

Yes. Sorry about that. Throughout my professional seagoing career we relied upon being able to calculate the precise declination of the sun and stars at any given time in order to navigate around the world. We didn't have satnav and GPS back then.

You're correct of course DJT, I knew as well, but a senior moment between typing finger and brain took over, at least the winter bit was right.

But I'm intrigued, when you say 'over here' you don't mean Devon, where are you?

I am in Devon John. Re-read - it says 'over there', meaning the Yucatan Peninsula where the Mayans had there HQ.
Anyway, as expected, we are still here so that was a load of b******$

Put it down to seasonal stress and probably a below average IQ. Anyway, I hope you over there in Devon, had a happy Solstice and will have an even more enjoyable Christmas and New Year!
