choke adjustment

the two pics show my choke fully off and fully on, according to the manual a 5/16 gap should be between the cam stop and cam when choke is fully on.well I can get at least double that and a bit more as well. car needs full choke to start but will not reduce from 1500/200 revs when pushing the choke in gradually until the last little bit of movement then it will conk out,so it's all or nothing until it settles down after a few mins. cable has no more adjustment on it either.Any ideas what's wrong ?

Hi Peter, I think you getting confused about the 5/16" Gap, that applies to the the fast Idle setting up. the screw pictured is also for the fast Idle but in the real world can be played around with until you get it set to suit you and the car.

What you need to do in simple terms is with the rod in place set the fast idle via the screw then lock it off.

Just thought, try a small blob of grease on the bolt head as well to allow the cam to slide.
