    Boot lid repair panel

I have been looking at the boot lid for my project stag. I think it is saveable with a significant amount of work but the underside where the lock fits is totaly buggered across the full width and will need a repair section.
Various ones seem to be available, mine needs to be for a MK1.
Has anyone on here fitted one, if so which did you use and how good was the fit
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

I think the panels come as a pair... one for each corner. Obviously there is a choice of MK1 or 2 but the bit that the lock sits on seems to be left out. I wanted to repair the boot lid I had because it was a decent shape but the same rear edge was non existent Also the frame members had rotten through in lots of places too. I eventually bought another slightly less rotten one and gave my original to "new to this" Dave.
My good friend Mr Crossman now has one similar to the one you are describing so it looks like I will get the chance to do a repair to one of these after all.. (What do you think Brian!)
When I first joined the Stag Owners Club, after I bought my car, I realized the difficulty of getting good boot lids and repair panels for this pretty much essential panel and so I suggested that SOCTFL looked at it as a project. I made the suggesiton on their website. I am disappointed to report that I didn't get any response at all. Or even an acknowledgement of the suggestion.

i bought my repair panels for the boot from paddocks, you buy them for mk1 or mk2,but as neil(73 stagman) said they dont come with the hole for the boot lock you have to cut that out yourself, you get a left and right repair panel,it is best to temporary fit each side at a time because your have to weld a nut on the back of each repair panel as this holds the boot lock to the boot,on my boot the outside edge is also rusted so im going to repair the out side edge first, and then fit the inner repair panels as your have more room to weld, but because its a large panel becarefull of to much heat
      hope that makes sence

Neil, I'm sorry you didn't get a response when you suggested that SOCTFL look at a rear boot repair panel via the website. There is a board meeting on the 14th do you want me to bring it up as a discussion point? It may be overtaken by another project that is underway but I can at least get a view for you and maybe ask Phil W to report back?

it would be a good idea if new boot lids were made but not at silly prices

I think a one piece repair panel would be a good thing, I think getting the curvature correct across the width of the boot could be entertaining.
The upper skin of my bootlid is seriously perforated where the upper and lower halves are welded together, I am going to try fixing this first and see if what is left is worth fixing.

on mine i was going to bend a strip of metal into a right angle, then use the stretcher to curve it,the main curves are really only at the ends, the repair panels don't have any sides/corners, your know what i mean when you see the repair panel
