    Cam cover reconditioning help!

Hi, anybody got any comments/views or recommendations on reconditioning stag cam covers. The ones on our stag although aren't bad I've decided to recon them and have them powder coated but I've been told a horror story when some were shot blasted and ruined the engine? Any help appreciated

Yes, remove the flame trap/oil separator gauze before shot blsting. Clean extremely carefully afterwards before refitting (will involve welding/brazing).
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Hi have them chemically cleaned, shot blast gets in the air breather box, which is spot welded so a bit of a pain

Cheers for reply, does this have to be replaced? Can I run the engine normally without the gauze/flame trap?

You can shot blast them without taking them apart, I have done a couple of pairs. Seal up the pipe connection with a plastic pipe bung (Taped on) and the underside of it with several layers of Gaffer tape. when done just flush the breather through to clean it of all the crud from normal use.

The only thing I would add is I do mean Shot Blasting not a process that uses an abrasive grit.

Seam sealer can be used to block up the gaps around the breather plate, then you can use the normal blasting grit which will not remove the sealer.

                Hi Gary,

Did you use straight forward black crackle finish? Whose make did you use?

                Cheers,
                Mike

I've found a local-ish company that will use vapour blasting, then have a new range of colours which includes a chrome finish? Apparently it's very good with pleasing results any views welcomed?
