    inlet leak again!!!

Hi there after being very chuffed with myself after the top end rebuild on my stag all was going well untill i noticed some coolant on my workshop floor2 weeks after. I have traced it to the front branch of the inlet mainifold its all torqued up correctly and plenty of hylomar was used and the thicker payen gaskets were fitted, the mainifold was fitted as per the manual torqing up before torquing down the heads.

Is there a better way of sealing the mainifold, better sealant etc or should i look at getting the mainifold refaced??

Any help would be great missing out on the sunshine!!

    Regards

    Paul

I had the same trouble as you and tried three times to seal my manifold! I used a grey sealant call 'Dirko" which is recommended and sold by James Paddocks and have had no trouble since.

    Cheers

I also have a slight leak but nothing to worry about, after four years I now regard it not as a leak but as 'self flushing'

Took me 3 goes aswell .in the end i stuck the gaskets to the manifold with 3 spots of super glue outside of the bolt holes put loads of hermatite red on the gaskets on the head sideand bolted down over night .in the morning i released the bolts and now the gaskets are at the correct angle to meet the manifold.remove the manifold clean of all the excess hermatite.finally replace the manifold with a small amount of sealant between the manifold and the gaskets which are nicely stuck to the heads.

Sounds complicated but it's not and worked for me.

        Cheers Steve

Personal opinion is that the thick gaskets are too thick and if your heads have been skimmed they won't seal right.

I use the Paddocks thin gaskets with a bit of Hylomar, and have no real problems

I used standard gadkets from JP and Wellseal on both sides. No leaks.
