    Clutch Conundrum

Morning all. A little puzzle for you.

Since getting my stag on the road a few weeks ago, the only bad point has been the clutch operation. I was kind of expecting something (since the plate had stuck to the flywheel and had to be levered off) but not as bad as it turned out. The inital take up was fierce, and jumpy, with a nice juddery finish to round off.

There has been some improvement as I think the rust/metal deposit was wearing off the plate, but still well below expectations.

Over the weekend I was inspecting the car and I found the main cause of the trouble which was clearly visible from underneath:

Todays conundrum: what do you think caused my clutch to judder badly?

            Missing straps, engine to gearbox?

Judder is classically oil on the clutch plate. Oil dripping from the drain hole?

Some other problem that causes clutch judder?

            Cheers,
            Mike.

Clutch cover bolts are too long and bottom out in the flywheel.

i had this, while it was apart i went mediaeval on cleanliness of the input shaft splines.

Someone has used standard triumph type clutch parts and not replace all that usless junk with a nice smooth hydrulic consentric slave cylinder.
