    Rev Counter

Hello. My rev counter is working a bit mad. It sometimes works and sometimes not. The gauge got stiff, moves slowly, doesn't return to "0" when turning the contact off... things alike. Usually it comes back to work more or less properly just after some miles driving, but anyway...

I want to fix it, but here in Spain it could be a bit difficult.

I want you to recommend a good place to send the clock to. Of course if any of you is skilled at this task I am open to offers.

Open also to offers if there is a rev counter (Smiths RVC 2811) available for me.

    Thanks and regards

Shazzbat - mine did exactly the same. Sometimes it would barely hover above 500 rpm, then suddenly it would decided to have a working day, then nothing again for weeks. Tapping on the glass helped sometimes. The only solution in the end for me was to get a replacement (my excuse for changing all the dials to magnolia ones ). They swap over pretty easy but a little pricey at £110 - £120 from Holden (http://www.holden.co.uk/displayProdu...s&brandCode=Z3)

Thanks Graham. Alan is the owner of The Gauge Shop, isnt' it?

I have been in contact with him already. We both think that the best option for me is to source a new one (or already reconditioned) instead of trying to fix mine up.

For just some quid more is worth to have one already checked. I'm going to order one for me, since I have to change also the bulbs of the dashboard (my classic car workshop is waiting for my car to leave the paintshop in order to fix the appointment for such a job).

        Two birds with one stone.

Alan, wait for my order. You will receive it in a while.

Thanks Richard for your advise. In fact after reading your message I decided to order the tacho directly.

Alan should have my order in his basket already.

By the way, what a wonderful Stag you have!

Mine is not so tidy nor luxurious, while good enough to be a real headturner here.

To have this special car in Spain has one advantage; classic car aficionados will crack their necks turning the heads. Not difficult to see Mercs Pagodas, Jag E Type and so on over here, but the Stag is pretty unknown and never seen. Well, not so unknown in the Canary Islands, as it seems!

But also one disadvantage: difficult to meet other owners.

It happens even in the UK too Shazz. I parked up the other day and had the owner of a nice Porsche Carrera drooling over the stag; he asked me if I would consider an offer for it!

I trust you, Chris. I lived in Northampton some years ago and I do not remember to ever seeing one in the streets.

One of my preferred spots to visit when living abroad was the Coventry Museum of Transport. Not far from home in Northampton Far Cotton and a fantastic place for a Saturday out. I do not remember to see any Stag on show there.

And when I took the car to the pub in Moulton (near Northampton) with my English friends after buying her, all the people in there got out quickly for having a look!
