    LED Sidelight Bulbs

Has anyone fitted LED bulbs in the front sidelights? I've stripped my sidelight units down for painting (chrome effect) and am going to fit new bulbs before re-fitting to the car. I was looking at LED bulbs but there is a bewildering selection to choose from in the GLB989/BA9/233 style

Hi Dave. Yes, I fitted them and they just didnt look right, too cold looking

If you are serious, then I can send them to you or I could take a photo and email it to you so you can see what they look like

      Hi Dave.

Just to give you an idea, many of them have a colour temperature of 6000k which is an ice white colour. Original fitment HID's are 4000-5000k and halogens 3000k.

Ice white is OK on a blue car!!

I have to say Dave, all the cars I have seen with them fitted just look wrong. Admittedly the standard set up is poor if not useless but more sympathetic to the car I think.

I have them fitted, they look ok when on their own, but not so good with headlamps on as well, also MOT tester gave me advisory 'side lights discoloured'

Got the same 9 LED ones, Ba9s I think, no advisory ! They're very bright but as Dave says, they look VERY different to the headlights, perhaps John's HIDs are the answer. Martin.

Thanks for the feedback and opinions guys. Something to think about.

I'm not keen on any blue tints, it would have to be white. I am a bit puzzled why DaveB's tester would give the 'sidelights discoloured' advisory unless there was a distinct colour present. I used to have the 'Ice Blue' headlight bulbs on my last Stag and these were never mentioned, despite a distinct blue tint especially when unlit!
I am confused by the different type of LED lamp available. Some have 4 or 7 traditional LED lights facing the front. Some have the square LED modules in various configurations and some look like the traditional bulb in shape. Which ones are best? Which give a white light?

You've got to try them out Dave, the ones with tiny white squares are the brightest, with tail lights you need them on the side so they use the reflector, generally, but not always, the more LEDs, the brighter they are.
