    Spin off oil filter

    Hi,

A friend is coming over to Brittany next month and he is going to bring over some Stag stuff for me, (including some BW35 transmission oil!!)

I mentioned in an earlier posting that I had an oil leak coming from the back of the engine when I started the Stag for the first time after many years, it is probably from the oil pressure switch housing, but to be safe I want to make sure that I order any needed gaskets and O rings. What do you think are the likely culprits?

Also I bought a spin-off conversion kit in 2000 from Paddocks (JPS155) together with an oil filter GFE229. This was described as an improved version of the GFE180. Paddocks no longer seem to do the 229, but still do the GFE180 . Both still seem to be available on Ebay, could anyone tell me the difference please.

    Thanks, Robert

Leak might also be from the half moon at the arse end of the cam cover. Maybe the cork cam cover gasket has dried out.

don't know about the oil filters, i am still on the paper cartridge jobby.

A bit more googling and the difference is in length, The GFE229 is 130mm long and the GFE180 is 89mm

Never mind the length, it is all about the girth.

But the girth is the same, so in this case it IS all about the length

FWIW, I know one Stag specialist uses the Mahle filter OC38 as a larger capacity oil filter for the Stag . It may be worth considering if you wish to get a larger filter.

On mine I have so far fitted a Crosland 2022 (may soon be unavailable depending on Rimmer's stock) and 2 Unipart GFE348s (When I spoke to my Unipart agent, he reckoned that this has superseded GFE180) with no issues .

Thanks for the information. I think it will be a good idea to order all o rings for the oil pump, transfer housing and spin off filter. The oil filter seems to be a matter of what size do you want!
