think I need a tune up

got the stag out today, first time in 4 weeks. Started first time after just a couple of seconds cranking. decided to pay some tax so filled the tank, quick calculation and I'm getting 11mpg! eek - hopefully I've miscalculated but I don't think so.

    Tune up time needed

Never worked on stromburgs, don't you need a special tool?

think I may need to phone a friend!

Tool is only about £15 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STROMBERG-...item564bf7ffd1

You should get nearer 20 around town and 28 on a good run or there abouts so yep looks like they need looking at.

    Cheers Steve

Well before you use that you should probably check a few things. This website is for tr6 but there is a good bit about the strombergs ,striping and setting up properly. Most of it will still apply to our carbs http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/techn...bsI/CarbsI.htm
Obviously the linkage between the 2 carbs is different and when you get to setting them up take the link rods off and get each carb drawing the same amount of air using a flow meter and adjusting the idle screw on each carb, then adjust and reconnect the rods so they fit without needing to move either throttle spindle ,best to check the ROM for all the adjustments and gaps to choke cams etc.

        Cheers Steve

          Interesting question...
I've had various Stags on and off since the late eighties. I admit they've often laid in garages for years undergoing rebuilds but have finally passed Mot with my rebuilt Strombergs. My question is how far out would settings need to be to fail? I admit to squeezing the juice into the tank and blamng moi, if the refill seems to come around quickly...

          Cheers Johny

I used to take a (more senior than me) ladys car each year for its MOT test and needed to weaken the mixture very slightly to get it through the emission test.
I used to richen it back again afterwards otherwise it was a little hesistant on acceleration..

              Hi Gary,

I could call round and show you how I set mine up if you like... She runs well and I get about 26mpg day to day. I balanced the temp compensators recently which made a difference too. I'm a bit busy this week though with a few things on after work

              Cheers

Hi Brian. That would be great thanks. I'm tied up this week too but next week will be better. I'm in work then so would need to be an evening. Also did you get my message about the triumph show next month?

Brian - would you be willing to do a write up here about how you go about your carb setup?

                  Always interested to learn................
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
