Before Christmas I looked at and ended up buying a Stag that I originally thought about as a donor car. However, on a further inspection, whilst it needed a lot of TLC, it wasn't past the point of no return. So a trip to the MoT tester, initially a fail, however some new parts and a bit of welding later and it had a 12 month ticket
Yesterday was a Mini classic car show and auto jumble at Bath & West Showground, so after only having very local trips to the MoT test and back in a car that hadn't been used for 18 months or so, it was with a little trepidation I headed from Trowbridge to Shepton Mallet.
I needn't have worried (not from an engine point of view anyway) a few cobwebs to start, lots of throttle initially needed when starting off or a risk of a stall, but after she warmed up she settled down. Sounded sweet and was very responsive. On the downside, I do have a list as long as my arm to sort out! (Some of these I have mentioned in an earlier posting, some are new!)
1. Speedometer works, but odometer and trip meter do not.
2. Temperature gauge immediately goes to midway when you turn the ignition on, then moves up to just below the red when she's warm.
3. Voltmeter doesn't work.
4. Fuel gauge doesn't work at the "Fuel" warning light is still on, even after I "brimmed" the tank!
5. Clock doesn't work.
6. Heated rear screen doesn't work.
7. Brake warning light doesn't come on when you turn the ignition on.
8. Interior heater doesn't provide any heat (it was a chilly trip yesterday!) - possibly a stuck valve?
9. I can't lock the petrol cap, the lock is present, but the locking dab isn't!
10. The interior lights don't work - I think that's just the wiring of the switch on the center console.
11. Overdrive doesn't work.
I do wonder if a lot of the electrical problems are linked. I can see a dash coming out fairly soon!
Oh the joys of classic car ownership!
Cheers
Peter
(Still has a big grin on his face though!)
