    plugging fuel hoses

    Hi,
I've looked through the Internet, but can't find anything suitable to permenantly plug the end of fuel hoses on the fuel tank. I want to get rid of the Federal car expansion tank and all those potentially leaky and smelly lines going from fuel tank to expansion tank. I will probably have to use a short piece of hose on the metal tank pipes, and plug the end completely and reliably.
Also, does anybody know if the expansion tank is still a requirement, or was it all just a fad of the time?
    Any ideas?
    TIA

Make sure you maintain a vent route from the tank. you have to let the air out when the fuel expands, and let air in as fuel is sucked out. I thought about removing all the vent pipe work but decided to keep it. I sealed each connection with a fuel safe gasket cement.

      Tanya,

Use a short length of fuel hose and plug the end with a suitably sized bolt and a hose clip.

To plug a hose I use an internal nylon plug, secured with a hose clip. The plug I cut from a length of 8mm nylon rod. But the end caps are good for metal pipes.

            Hi Nick,
What about leaving the vent hose that goes to the front of the car, to the charcoal absorber (now removed). Would that suffice for the tank to breathe?

              Hi Tanya,
you should be able to find caps in the auto parts store. I did not get rid of the tank but I did replace the lines with a combination of fuel hose and plastic fuel line I glued the line into the hose, no leaks no smell.

              cheers stuart

There's a fuel return line from the top of the tank to the fuel filler bowl. It bypasses the petrol cap seal so as long as you keep that you should be okay.
