    oil pressure gauge pipe

    Good evening chaps
ive just received a oil pressure gauge/water temp gauge(smiths type), i would like to replace the 5ft 4" plastic feed pipe which goes from the oil pressure switch to the gauge with something more robust ie braided type.Has anyone done this as the plastic pipe looks vulnerable to me in the engine bay
    Thanks Keeny

I have had the plastic oil pressure line to the gauge for over 6 years,no problems at all.I also think it is better than copper as it will flex with any movement etc.

As long as there are coils in the copper pipe it flexes with any movement. 15 years fitted.

Got a braided pipe on my gauge. You need one from a proper Mini, made by Aeroquip or Goodrich

You can get Goodrich braided types. Brighton Bob got some, just make sure they don't short on the brake light switch.

Edit: Too late, beaten by BB.

Oh yeh, forgot about that,. Had to re-route the pipe and took it through a lower hole in the firewall, went on a run one weekend and was told I had no brake lights, several fuses later, checked the brake light switch and the pipe had dropped onto the switch and was shorting it out. Cable tie it up.

                Thanks chaps for the advice,
Bob was the length of your braided pipe 48" as the plastic one supplied with the gauge was 64" and if so was this length a little on the short side or was it ok,(This post sounds so wrong) but I think you know what I mean
                Thanks keeny

As I said above, get one to fit a proper Mini, then it will be fine

I can't remember off hand and I'm away from home at the moment. If you can hang on until the weekend, I can check and also, hopefully, tell you where I got it from.

                        Cheers

I've just been able to find out that I got it from Demon Tweaks. Still not sure of length but I guess 4'.

If you want me to, I can measure it when I get back home at the weekend.

                            Cheers

My car came with a plastic pipe - and I bought it 13 years ago. Best guess from the history - it was fitted in 1986. I'd call that durable. Copper might harden and fracture with vibration and age - but it's all relative. I cannot see any of it lasting less than ten years if my experience is anything to go by....................
