Hi just joined this forum, hopefully going to get an auto Stag in the next few months when the RIGHT one comes along

Ihave allways wanted one ever since i was a Austin Rover mechanic in the late 70s early 80s and every now and then one would come in for a serviceand we would have to toss for who was going to work on it, then you could test drive it

What are the main things i should look out for before buying?

Main thing to look for are trousers with deep pockets.Only kidding .There's a lot of Stags for sale at the moment so you should get one for a good price.

Try doing a search on the subject ,it's been discused several times.

Why not give your local Co-ordinator (name and phone no. in SOC mag)a phone callwhen you think you have found the right Staghecould be willing to have a look with you, remembertwo heads are better than one.

With a stag i would say they are essential

Thanks i did a search, but its nice to see an update on things that people might have added.

One question about the Stag in winter, i have a garage to work on it but it will have to live outside, whats the best way, is it take soft top of and fit hard top, then when better weather comes put soft top back on.

Hi Sid from another ex-works mechanic!

Paid far too much for my Java one in real terms, and have the pee taken constantly over the colour.... I think the latest comment from this month's Stag Mag about my car from Roger is "expendable".... however, if you are like me your instinct born of days getting oily and paid for it will soon tell you if you have a good'un.

Mine has been almost as reliable as my Honda Accord, and gets used every day, winter as well - it's never left me stranded by the side of the road! Remember you only get what you pay for, and the youngest you'll get is going to be 30 yrs old!!

Good advice already given. Remember - look at as many as you can. Get someone to go with you, and buy the best you can afford.

Hello and welcome to the world of the empty wallet!

My best piece of advice would be don't do what I did and rush into buying. I bought the second one I had seen and with hindsight I would have been better looking at lots more to get a proper taste for what's out there.

It's also nice to welcome another Stag owner from "up north" - we seem to be thin on the ground! :?

Thanks for all the advice and the welcome, i will take my time and look at a few.

Been watching ebay but dont fancy buying off there, Piston Heads and Auto Trader are probably the best bet.
