    Modifying the rear seat fixings

The rear seat back rest is secured by two bolts at the top from within the hood storage area, has anyone modified this to allow the rear seat back rest to be removed from inside the car?

The reason for asking is that if, for whatever reason, the hood release failed it would be very easy to fix if the rear back rest could be easily removed.

With the current arrangement I am not sure how access to the hood catch would be possible without damaging something.

I was thinking of bolting plates to the existing top brackets and fitting plates to the rear support which would allow the back rest to be removed by simply sliding it up and out, i.e. a similar arrangement to the bottom fixing.

Has anyone tried that, done something similar or foresee any problems?

    Hi Phil,

I fixed the back rest with velcro strips. So it's very easy to remove it from inside the car.
But I'm wondering about the security aspects of this solution.

I think Julian (jleyton) on here has already done this with some success.

removing the back seat wouldnt help much any way, because the clip/catches are on the sides you would need to remove the cubby panels

Yep, Ian's right - except that I'd say with total success . A thoroughly recommended mod

Some heavy duty velcro is all it took (thanks Mike) and I've got a handy storage area that's easily accessible for keeping one bag of tools and one bag of emergency spares`.

            Cheers
