Attention seeking after sitting in the Garage

For various reasons I have not been able to use the car since 25th November although I have started and warmed it up twice in that time.

Anyway today was the day for a run out. Not even a mile in to the drive and the 2 speed Kenlowe fitted in August is in Hyper drive mode. Temp gauge hasn't hardly moved yet and hoses are stone cold. Turn the thermostat up to nearly Max turns it off but cuts back in when idling in Traffic. (temp not going over the 1/4 before it cuts in) cuts out again when circulation starts. I'm happy the cars fine but has anyone had a problem with a Kenlowe Thermostatic control going crazy

Other thing it done was pop the bulb in the second speed switch, I'll ring them on Monday and ask if they will send me a replacement Switch and Thermostatic controller

So the journey home and I find myself asking, why's it running like this Bl**dy Needle valve in R/H carb pumping my Shell V plus all over the road. That's sorted now with the spares I keep in the boot so just the Fan now to sort out in the week. Don't you just love um

Sorry to hear your problems ian, sticking needle valve sounds very familar as you well know.
My old girl has had its fair share of attention over the last very frustrating 4 weeks and now hope
this particular problem is now put behind me and i can move on.
Good luck with the fan issue.

    Cliff.

Ian, like me you should be ashamed of yourself for not driving it more. The last time I drove mine must've been October when we went to soft-top Sunday at Goodwood...until yesterday when I took it out for a spin. I hadn't even started the engine in the meantime nor put the battery on charge, all I did was a quick check on fluids and tyre pressures and it started straight away (I always wait for the fuel pump to stop clicking first)
I don't deserve for it to treat me so well!

Different problem to yours Cliff, yours was the carb piston sticking. Mine involved completely removing the carbs and stripping down the bottom of the right hand one. I, like others, have done this so many times now you can do it in under an hour and I always make a point of keeping spares in the boot. How did yours fire up today.

Kevin your right of course, but the day's and weeks seem to just fly by. I'm Bl**dy annoyed about the Kenlowe though

Not fired it up today a couple of small valets to do this morning and a couple of jobs to do at home.
But feeling confident it will start ok next time ,well you have to look on the bright side dont you if its not fixed now it never will be lol.
          Good luck with the kenlowe.

          Cliff.

Well I phoned Kenlowe today and they were very helpful and are sending me a new fan controller and would like the old one back as this is the first one they have ever had fail surely not, how many of them must they have sold over the years.

Still can't complain, as I said they offer very good support and customer service.

not used mine since late November last year, again for a multitude of reasons but mainly down to mum losing her battle with cancer. It is currently completely blocked in the garage by all the crap that came out of my old shed but not yet been moved into the new shed.

Mrs thestag still feels the need to nag and harrange me about the washer pump that needs fitting to her mums matiz and the huge pile of firewood that needs cutting up. "Blinking flip woman, as soon as I get 5 mins" etc etc

it pays to put some fuel preserver in the tank, stops the valves gumming up

Just to finish this thread, I got a phone call this afternoon from Jeff at Kenlowe.

It would appear having tested the old unit I returned to him, the variable thermostat controller on my car is only the 3rd one they have had fail in the last 7 years, I can't recommend them enough. The customer service is excellent, when I initially bought the fan kit (delivered next day free p&p) and with the recent issue, the replacement controller was with me in less than 24hrs.

If you are thinking about fitting a fan kit then give Jeff at Kenlowe a call first 01628 823303 for an excellent price and customer service.

I've thought about fitting a Kenlowe engine pre-heater to my daily car (the type that Rimmers sell) however they're not cheap I was tempted by the less expensive alternatives around but now you're pushing me back towards Kenlowe

                      Cheers

Hello Ian my Kenlow fan started messing about a while back, the car does not run hot and has only ever cut in once or twice in the hottest of weather when in traffic, i put the problem down to the controller so add a second to their list, i really could not be arsed to mess about so i wired the kenlow to operate manually, i am constantly looking at the gauges anyway so not a problem for me...Steve
