Hi guys! can anyone enlighten me!- have just recieved a new TONNEAU rubber seal ordered from Rimmers....(zkc730) but its cross section is completley different from the orriginal!?! tis new one is loose in the channel and only has 1 lip ie does not cover the inner side of the channel!...have these been changed in some way from my spec? .....
Welcome to the parts scene. It's frustrating isn't it ! I too have exactly the same part and the same problem. Damn thing pops out of the channel every time I open the tonneau. I've been told to glue it in, but to me that beats the object of having it there as a replaceable part in the first place.
Hi Tim! damn frustrating! anyway am not avin full stop!!! I suggest have a look a "WOOLIES" website!!!! classic car sundries!! they have every profile under the sun you can also request a free catalog!!! its a fascinating site!!went out today on my maiden run after 3 month refit! and promptly broke down!!!! at local garage! coil died on its ****! ..... fortunatley had an ol rascal... lurking in me garage!!!!
thought you would like- I got my underfelt from them for my re-fit will certainlly use them again- they also do some specialist "vinyl" paint I am considering for the inside of my soft top! taking further advice first!
Many thanks for that! Bill- on a different tack.... my 74 is fitted with a luminition set up... but although got loads of reference on my STAG orriginal manual and rom etc..struglin to find specs etc for this rascal!!! any ideas? cheers as ever !
Sorry, but not familiar with the Lumenition system (I use the Aldon Ignitor), but if you Google you'll find plenty of references to the various Lumenition systems.
Hi Bill! thanks for that!....I know this souns a bit of a daft question.... but if you have an electronic ignition....is there any relevance still to dwell angle??? reason for asking..... I took my rascal out today on maiden trip after 3 month internal re-fit! and promply broke down at garage......!would not re-start.... I thought a flooding problem..just turned out to be an unseen coil problem...oxidised connectors etc...quite embarassed really as dragged out local A.A fella...went out no tools etc! like a wazak!.....thinkg is he put a meter on and found "dwell angle" in reigon of 60 odd... and expected reading in lieu circa 40ish!!! so am I right in thinking this reading becomes negligable.....get my drift?? your wizard and learned comments welcome!!
Hello to Phil and Tim. I havejust yesterday replaced the tonneau seal with one from Rimmers. The one I replaced looked exactly the same but in a slightly different material. The one lip on it was covering the inside edge so thats what I did with this one, glueing it intermittently just as theold one had been.
Must admit I thought it might have been better the other way round with the lip covering the wing edges etc. and wondered if the previous one, from god knows when, had been correctly fitted.
but if you have an electronic ignition.....thinkg is he put a meter on and found "dwell angle" in reigon of 60 odd... and expected reading in lieu circa 40ish!!! so am I right in thinking this reading becomes negligable.....
Phil
Not too sure on this one - normal dwell on the Stag is 26-28 or 30 -34(ish) degrees for single and twinpoints respectively. However, points will give you a constant dwell angle, butI'm assumingyour Lumenition dwell is variable so comparison is not straightforward. You'll need to check the specification for your particular unit and see what the dwell value should be at a specified RPM.
Back to the tonneau seal- My hood is a tight fit in its storage compartment. I did consider fitting the other way round but that would have meant the hoodrubbing the raw edges of the track for the seal rather than the rubber flap.
Oh and I hope you checked the drains at each end. Mine were choked... water under the back seat etc...
I'll be looking at how others are fitted now that they are coming out of hibernation.
Great weather. Hoping for a really long run over the weekend.
Hi Brian!...dead right ....! mine choked as well! I have replace all the seals on my soft top!...its amazing to see new against old! Staggering (excuse the pun....!) how much they reduce in volume The real p.i.t.a is the front screen one ... took me ages but got it right in the end! p.s mine is a white 74 mk2 similar to yours nearing the end of it's internal refit!!..cost me a bomb...but she is worth it!
