I'm in need of some new front discs whats the forum opinion on uprated discs drilled or grooved or both. I've always thought my stag stops pretty well and the upgrades are cracking on for five times the price of the standard items are they worth it?
Cheers
Bruce
I got rid of the drilled and grooved discs which I fitted as soon as I could, they made a really annoying noise due to air being compressed into the holes I think.
Cheers Steve
I would have said not Bruce, I've just fitted new standard discs and calipers and they're perfect. If you race, track days etc. upgrades may be worthwhile, otherwise not. Wards do a vented disc, alloy four pot caliper set if you're serious, very costly. Martin.
Triumph brakes as standard are pretty keen and reliable, (well Stag and TRs anyway), as recounted unless you are considering competition use ( not just an occasional track day) as long as they are up to standard you should find them on top of the job.
Oh...and beware the specifying of competition pads for road use, if a drumbraked moggy minor jumps on his
brakes in front of you visions of your wallet will flash into your mind as you struggle to get your cold competion
pads to stop the car...terrifying !
One speaks as one finds, I fitted EBC discs and greenstuff pads std callipers and a 328 servo. Result stops the car on a tanner.( and they don't need to be warmed up) where as I do, One thing I don't think you can have is too much brakes, especially on an auto. Graham
The ones i binned were the Rossini ones and I went for Wilwood 4 pot with vented discs but only cos i got them cheap and my std calipers were shot.
Cheers Steve
i replaced my discs a few years ago, went through the whole 'should i change for drilled/grooved ones' i couldn't justify the cost over std. ones.
I'd either do nothing apart from renew normal discs + Greenstuff pads, or go the whole-hog and get the Willwood setup from Chris Witor (or other suppliers if they do it)
I uprated mine from Richard Lane at Brighton Stag Specialist years ago, from a Jag, they're still in my garden rusting away, £320, 20 years ago was a lot of money and still is.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!
