    Seat Covers are here

Aldridge have just delivered my new front seat covers and foams so as I'm off today guess what I'm playing with for the rest of the afternoon

Swiss Steve.... you asked me how much they were. Looking at the invoice I've paid £564 for full set of covers x 2 full set of foams x 2 diaphramsx 2 headstaint covers x 2 backboards x 2 plus delivery

Being stubborn and always up for a challenge I'm going to give it a go. I will let you know how I get on

I would wish you luck but I'm still smarting from Wembley and therefore still not speaking to anyone from Stockport! :P

Hope it goes OK. I took the easy way out and swapped my seats for some from a newer vehicle, Iwill post a couple of photos when I get time.

      Thanks Cheesy.

Commiserations etc. On the plus side I'm not actually a native Stockportian or whatever they are... originally more from your neck of the woods. In fact I don't even live in Stockport really.. its moreCheadle Hulme which allegedly has a lot more snob value!!

      Cheers

Dont forget to take plenty of photos to help those who follow in your footsteps

Have fun and good luck and I am really interested to see how difficult this task is because my seats drop foam everytime I sit on them.

David , Ive recovered a seat case before , just dont pull the straps to tight on the inside just above the front of the base it pulls the base cover too far down , I would do one seat at a time and that way you have a reference to look at . Hope this helps.

            Hi David,

What type of foams did you get ?, i hope there not from that well known supplier near Chester as the backs just don't fit. Good luck with the challenge.

            Cheers

Ok Steve... I'll document it as much as I can and keep a note of the pifalls and learning points etc

Euro Voyager.... Yes now I know exactly what you mean about pulling those straps too tight .... takes a bit of slackening off and re tensioning to get right

Bruce ... The base is one piece, the back is made up from 5 pieces... first one seems to have gone together quite easily.... used heavy duty spray adhesive to fasten it all together.

Anyone doing this job... make sure you get lots of extra upholstery clips as not only do modern seat covers require more than the original but you'll probably break a couple getting them off.

By the way the diaphrams are a complete ba***rd!! to get on

I hope they aren't the same as from a well-known supplier in Hertfordshire. I boughta pair from them at Prescott and the seat backs are with a local trimmer whilst I am away at work. :?

Better ring them on Monday and see how they are getting on!

                  Dave,

If you have 5 piece as david(green stag) does you will be ok, it's the one piece white foam that don't fitthey are square not rounded on the shoulders.

                  Cheers

Mm! Better phone the trimmers on Monday and see how they are getting on. I thought from previous discussions that these foams were OK.

Yeah, well!Spoke tothe trimmers yesterday and they told me they couldn't get these foams to fit. Not without a h*ll of a lot of alteration and padding anyway, which would cost me a lot more than expected.

Spoke to the suppliers today. I asked if they had experienced any problems fitting these foamsand was told: 'We know of several DIY owners who have fitted them. They did have to fiddle a bit, but after a few days they were OK'. When I pointed out that their website states: "At last an easy to fit one piece seat foam back for MK2 Stags", and I wasn't prepared to pay a trimmer for several day's work, they backtracked and offered to take them back. They will be in my boot when I go to National Day!

I then called Aldridge. When I mentioned the one-piece foams, their response was barely printable - something along the lines of 'waste of space'. They are sending two sets of their seat back foams direct to my trimmers overnight, so hopefully I will get a pair of nice seats back on Monday.

Another lesson learned about inferior after-market parts

                        Hi Dave

I used the 5 piece set and did not get a fab result but that will be pilot error rather than the fault of the foams, i will redo the seat that i have done,i need an electric carving knife apparantly.

i am sure apro would do a fab job with it and i may go this route .

At least on the seats any wrinkles can be sorted later, and its quite a satisfying job, mine are so much more comfortable though the seat feels a lot higher now, and at 6'4" THATS NOT A GOOD THING!!:X
