It makes it easier to reach but, more importantly, it takes out a nasty double bend in the routing of the cable. Not only does this make it stiff to operate but it must increase the loading on the cable and its fixings, which increases the likelihood of failure.
I've done it and once the centre console is out then it's not hard, however if you want to put the HRS switch where the choke cable was then you have to make up an extended loom to the switch and the warning light.
I did mine a few months back whille everything was out due to a partly melted main loom. It is more time consuming than it at first seems. I made up a complete new custom loom for the centre console and there is some accurate drilling and filing required when making the new hole for the choke. It is not a straightforward round/circular hole, it has a flat (chord?) that is to stop the choke assembly from rotating.
In its new position on the right, the choke cable fouls the corrugated flexi-pipe that feeds the RH windscreen demist. I had to carefully 'crush' it on its LH side to ease the route of the choke cable around the back of it, then feeding off to the right. The easiest path for the cable would be straight through the centre of the vertical flexi-pipe! However, this is not really a good idea......
The choke is easier to operate though in its new position, both in terms of ergonomics and force needed.
I also moved the HRW warning light over to the left and will use the old hole on the right for an alarm LED.
There was also an issue fitting the HRW switch into the old choke hole, but atm, can't remember what is was.......
