    Weird Wipers

My widscreen wipers have been getting more and more ponderous until they finally gave up the ghost altogether.
On stripping them down, having a tug-o-war with the rack gave an indication of where the problem lay - an almost seized wheel box, now spinning freely after the application of copious easing oil. So a blown fuse was suspected for the complete lack of function but no; power available to all terminals.
Took the cover off the motor and found two of the bushes stuck right back in their holders not contacting the comutator. Freed them off (I know, probably needs new ones but...) put it back together and it spins on command. Except that they are now off in position 2, high speed in position 1 and low speed in position 0!!! Now I havent touched the limit switch and I match marked the cover like the good book says. I haven't re-assembled yet so not sure if it's "running in reverse" as suggested in the manual, whether this means reverse direction or reverse of the switch settings.

    Any thoughts out there?

Anyone know a readily available equivalent to Ragosine Listate grease? Assume this is good for the rack as well?

if you've had the rack disconnected from the motor are you sure the small plastic slider at the rack connection end of the motor has been put back in the right way round,I've a feeling this may cause your symptoms.

Hi, I've used ordinary HMP grease, no probs as a result. Don't think it's the self park slider, it has a ramp shape underneath so either it works or it doesn't. Put it all together again and try it, you may find it's OK, unless you've done something really peculiar with the brushes. Martin.

My wipers seem to be seizing up too.
Must have replaced about a dozen blown fuses since October.
If I give them a tug when first switching them on, they work fine.
Looks like ill be checking out & lubing my wheel box just like Jim did on his.

when I first bought mine the wipers were very slow and would struggle to move at all sometimes, the problem was the car had not been used in the rain and all the grease in the wiper worm drive was congealed and rock hard. Took it out, cleaned and re-greased it problem solved. ( after I'd bought a new motor of course)

On contemplating taking it apart again I relented and bought some new brushes from Paddocks but the ones supplied foul the body quite nicely thus providing an excellent short. Anyone else come across this problem? The brushes use the card as a guide so are mounted centrally rather than on the surface so as they go back to clear the comutator they contact the housing.

Bought some spray grese from Halfords to lube the rack with. When applied it seems too thin but as it dries out it feels about right and easy to put on and squirt up the pipes!

My wipers had been getting slower and slower and I suspected the brushes. I took the motor apart last Saturday and they looked good, so I cleaned and regreased everything and hey presto, they worked as they should and even parked in a much better position. But... after testing them a couple of times they would not stop at all. It turned out to be that I had not located the metal tab into the plastic slider properly and it had come out. Replaced properly again they now work fine. I used ordinary LM grease which seems OK so far...

                  Hi Brian

Can you pop over and sort ours out? The wipers won't stop and I have become very adept at switching them off in the correct position!

                  Regards

                    Hi Bruce,

Mine would not stop at all!! Even on intermittent they were permanently on... I thought I had wrecked the motor until I took the cover off to have a look!

                    Cheers
