Anyone got an old relay plate?

I'm after a relay plate to be able to modify it for "modern" relay etc. without chopping the original up. I don't need any of the relays, flashers, looms etc. on the plate itself.

I'll be at Stoneleigh on 3rd March, or postage to a UK address is ok.

I'm not after a freebie (but wouldn't turn it down of course!)

How different are they to the big saloon relay plates? I have a few of those.

      Cheers,
      Mike.

Not in good condition anyway. The back bit of 'hardboard' tends to tear when removing/refitting.

I might have something in my 'stores', (having had big saloons since 1974, I've accumulated an awful lot of bits, or rubbish as SWMBO calls it!).

Do you want me to have a look?

          Cheers,
          Mike.

That would be great Mike - the condition of the card bit at the back is immaterial (pun not intended) as long as the basic base, and padded edge is OK as the PO covered the card section on the passenger side with green carpet to match the rest - and I have a piece....

It would be so handy to have a shelf on the OS for me to chuck things such as radios and stuff....

            Cheers

              Hi Russ,

I'll try and have a look this weekend in time for Stoneleigh.

However, Julian did try a saloon one and had some issues, so it might be worth having a word with him.

              Cheers,
              Mike.

Sounds great Alan! Your carbs will be appearing soon on the White/Blue restoration thread!

If we miss each other at Stoneleigh, I suggest leaving it with Roger or Lesley at the SOC stand so you don't cart it there and back without a handover!

                Cheers

                  .
Yep Russ, a saloon one will, surprisingly, not fit a Stag.

It's a bit complicated to explain quite why. If you can hang on until you're down this way then I can explain more fully and show you how I managed to make an O/S parcel shelf.

                  Cheers

                  Julian

                    Russ,

I've found one in the shed - it's not brilliant. After Julian's comments, do you still want me to bring it on Sunday?

                    Cheers,
                    Mike.

                      Hi Drew
This is how I arrived at mine after several developments/incarnations. Several existing holes were used, some others, both square and round were needed. The trick is to maximise space, use existing loom and allow relay or fuse removal/replacement. I had a new loom feed going to the plate from the top RH corner for 'extras' that I built in when repairing my loom.

Although not all were fitted for the photo, left to right, the bottom 6 relays are:

                      headlights
                      headlights
                      horn
                      windows & OD
                      heater & HRW
(then 5 fuses for alarm etc)
                      starter solenoid

Top right relay & fuse is a spare, err I think anyway, can't recall now if I used it or not!

The interlocking relay holders and fuses are old Lucas/Rists and were very cheap. However, they did need some work in order for the spade terminals to latch/lock in the fuse holders and the spades were a VERY tight fit in the relay holders.

                      Cheers, Keith.

Cheers Keith! That certainly will give me a head start when I get to planning my one.

                        Thanks
