    Seam Sealer question

HI , Am working on removing all the underseal from the car , spent the weekend doing a single arch , 90% was solid as a rock , but there was enough dodgy areas caught just in time to make it worth the work , I noticed them seemed to be absolutely no seam sealer applied so plan to put some on . The question I ask , is do I apply directly to the surface ? , or do I put it on after I have applied the planned coat of Rustbuster 121 epoxy mastic ? , or even is inbetween coats best ? . Is there an established rule for application ? - Advise much appreciated - Cheers Steve

    hi
i worked next to a bodyshop and they advised me to prime the area and then apply seam sealer. it seems to have worked as 9 years later its still perfect on my Stag
    hope thats helpful

Ah, that does look familiar. I have just spent a thoughtful couple of hours doing the OSF wheel arch of mine. I will finish it off tomorrow, wash it with white spirit and move onto the other side. Great fun! Much easier doing it whilst the car is up on a hoist for other repairs than it was crawling around on the floor when I did it on my last Stag!

        Steve,
As previous i only have front arches to do was going to leave them for a while, but had a day off today so like youself
have stripped one side, are you taking strut off, looking at book looks a simple job, the rubber gaitors have perished on mine
so it looks as though they will have to come off and cleaned etc. As Len said i primed all areas before seam sealent

        Many thanks Glyn

I have primed first too . I found masking the area first helps , I then use a cut off inch brush to really push the sealer into the seam , if it just lays on top it may peel off. It's really sticky stuff so the masking really helps.
