Location of Mk 1 Hazard Switch

I'm thinking of fitting hazard warning lights to my 1972 Mk 1 and noticed that MK 1s originally came with a rocker switch rather than the later pull-out switched fitted to the dash in later cars. Anyone know where the switch was fitted ? Also, I presume the red brake warning light on the dash was replaced by a green item where Mk 1s had hazards fitted ?

    Thanks

    Mark,

My understanding is that Mk 1 cars did not have a hazard warninfg switch at all! I c ertainly had to fit one to my 1972 car. I fitted an aftermarket 'pull-out' switch at the bottom of the dash below the two main dials. It looks fairly original and is quite easy to do. PM me if you want any details.

    Regards

    Peter

Mk1 cars did not have hazards fitted to my knowledge unless it was for export cars?

My Federal Mk 1 has a pull out hazard switch middle bottom of the dash and red light middle top.

According to Rimmers' catalogue the part no is 156044 as shown in the attached picture - it also shows where the brake warning light is replaced by the hazard warning light

My Stag is a MK 1.5 reg. 1973. Here is a photo of my dashboard and there is no hazard warning light switch. The brake warning light in in the centre top which glows when you switch on the ignition and is extinguished when the engine is started. The warning light cluster is out of the picture to the left and includes an ignition light which glows red on ignition and is extinguished on start up and an oil pressure light which glows green on ignition and is extinguished on start up.

                Hi Rod,

The layout of my own Stag is almost identical, I hadn't heard of Mk 1s with factory fitted hazards but seeing the item in Rimmers' catalogue made me ask the question.

                      Mark.
If you are planning to fit the switch in the usual place as per MKII then just be careful as there is a raised lip to the recess where the dashboard goes back in to and if the switch is fitted too low then it will either foul the lip or the switch will short out.........ask me how I know!!!

If you look at my album "LED Instruments" you can see the switch and that one is too low by about 3mm

                          Hi Steve,
Yes I have two capillary gauges taken from the rear of each cylinder head. I have balanced the heads by joining them across the back. As you can see I get a fairly balanced temperature between the two.

I have read a 1970 article that says lhd export models had the hazard switch in the glovebox to avoid turning them on accidentally . I can't say I have ever seen one like this though.

My dashboard - 1971 Federal, LHD. The switch is a pullout, and both indicator lights flash to show it's working.

The big round warning light at the top is for the Brake alarm, i.e. when the PDWA detects a circuit failure. Also lights up in sync with the oil pressure light, presumably to demonstrate the bulb is working.

                              Cheers,
