    Mk2 seat recovering

I've got all the bits (new seat covers, foams etc) to refurbish my seats, it doesn't look too complcated to do but if anyone can give me any tips to make the job easier or if there are any pitfalls that I should be aware of I would be very grateful

Hi Ivan. I will help if I can, I do a lot of these. Who's foams have you got for the backrests (there are a few different ones) ?

I'll be doing my seats soon (once Aldridge delivers - they've had a delay from their foam supplier) so I'll be watching this one

done mine with new covers and foams it's not too difficult just take your time and note where stuff comes from so you don't have problems replacing. if you have to cut foam use an electric carving knife to shape it, use cling film between the cover and foam when replacing as it slides on allot easier. don't forget the headrests, you can make your own foam pads for these.seat frames may be rusty so treat and paint them before reassembly.personally, i found the new seat base foams were too flat on the side bolsters so i cut and shaped extra foam and spray glued them onto the new foams before fitting the new covers. do one seat at a time and enjoy it

You can use silicon lubricant instead of clingfilm as well. (I got mine from Halfords. In a spray can).

Hi Chris, all the materials have come from Aldrdge trimmings, the backrests foams are in four pieces, the seat base is one solid piece

a little mod i did on my seat bases, was to fit an extra padding ( i used a bit off the old seat cover ) on to two metal brackets that stick up (hinge part) stag seats always rip there

Having a go at re-covering my Mark 1 seats at the moment with Aldridge foams and covers. Just for clarity can anyone advise whether the foams should be glued to the frame and the covers glued to the foam all over, at any part, not at all? Also, got two rectangular thin (1/8") pieces of foam from Aldridge: are these to build up the sides of the seat cushion as some suggest is required?
                        Thanks
                        Jonathan
