This is superb advice, Bruce - get it welded good enough to MOT and use, and if you really want a project Stag, get a shell, get it sorted andpainted ready for refit and then, and only then, swap your happily running bits over....

That was the general plan that I had in mind. i.e. purchase a donor car, strip, sort the shell, paint etc and then transfer over the bits from my current car.

I'm with Russ the whole rebuild thing requires so much time , if you are going to do it be really prepared first.........but having said that there are so many good cars out there, i think I would break and buy anew. difficult choice.

The advice above all makes sense, what is the actual welding that needs doing? you have already said it does not go into the sills.
          Pretty long list:-

          all new floor pans

          three new out riggers

          radiator support panel

numerous repairs on the nearside chassis leg

sections where the rear trailing arms pivot on the underframe

all the sills (the car currently has 4 piece ones) although these only need doing if I was to keep the car

plus various probelms which need putting right if I was to keep the car long term
