Well i'm another under 25, i'm 20 to be exact. My dad owns the Stag, I've got the obsession from going out in it as long as we've had it (12 years now).

Its definitely the cost of Stags that will be putting off young members, the outright purchase cost, price of parts and cost of insurance are all pretty ridiculous. Not that there's much we can do about those.

I'm hoping to be insured on it when we get it back on the road this summer but we'll see. Atleast then i could drive my dad around in it rather than the other way around!

whitev8stag/Ben i don't think i've met you! We live just down the road from South Brent in Ashburton, the Stag lives in Buckfast.

I've just read Ollie's article in the mag (Thanks Ollie ). Due to the lack of response he has had would it be worth extending the age group to under U30 as for all the reasons stated on here. It's hard to own a stag when you are under 25. Also would the owners club be willing to try and strike a deal with parts suppliers for discounts for the youngsters of the stag owners club, as they are the future of their business and the owner's club; this could help to make owning and running a stag at a young age more viable; worth a thought.

This is just a thought, but we've been doing some analysis of information consumption patterns of Millenials recently. Gross generalization, but they don't read dead trees or email. Try FaceBook, Twitter or other emerging "Social Media" platforms to get their attention...

As an under 30 I would say to leave things be . Many U25s are part of the Dolomite club whose prices IIRC are not that much cheaper than the SOC's. Although the spares are not the cheapest in some respects they are almost definitely a cheaper car to run all round in comparison to a Stag (Even my Sprint was significantly cheaper to buy and run over the Stag). I guess the fact that many spares are unique to the Stag does not help matters. It's certainly been a reason why a few friends of mine have not even considered buying a Stag (they have bought MGBs, Dolomites/TR7s along with Minis (OK they are not all that cheap to buy now, but they are relatively cheap to maintain out of the mentioned cars ).

Saying that, even with the Holley the fuel economy of the Stag has surprised me (24MPG average over a variety of conditions). Although my Sprint was getting low 30s a number of Dolly owners with Slant 4s seem to struggle to hit higher than high 20s.

An under 25's or 30's Facebook group isn't actually a bad shout, there won't be a way of actually limiting the age of people in the group but it could be a start.

I think the point is that whether it's Farcebook, Twatter, (sorry, I'm an old fart ) or whatever, it's a route or means to engaging anyone who might be interested in Stag's. It just happens that these particular on-line portals are more likely to be used by the younger generation, so, yes, we should be "out there".

Going back to what I was saying for the moggy site: The MMOC has a very active forum almost identical to this one. For the younger members, they set up a Facebook page simply because it does pretty much all of this, but the youngsters already know how to use it. It's been a huge success. My only issue would be that I much prefer facebook (sorry- it's better in some many ways, not better in others), and I'd really want to join such a facebook group in spite of being 48.

Twitter is more about just broadcasting 'stuff' to whoever wants to listen by the way- not so much explicitly about social groups.

Incidentally there's already a fairly active Stag facebook fan club group (general - not SOC, not younger members) :
