rear seat belts

im planning on buying and fitting a pair of rear seat belts to my mk1 soon before trimming is done as i think the belt has a path through the rear cubbys ? and im not sure how the shoulder strap is routed ? ,i dont want lap belts but have seen over shoulder type as front ones .who sells them and any recomendations tips etc . greatfully recieved.

Tony Hart does a set of inertia reel belts (I got mine off ebay he trades as Tonyhrs) for the rear which come with fitting instructions for the Stag and when I checked with him he said tey may need some minor drilling but no welding. I've bought a pair and will be fitting them in my Mk at some stage - they look good off the car!

Hi Steve,

Only the mk2 cubby panels have the cut out for the seat belts to pass through. This is why the mk2 pockets are smaller. I had to change them on my mk1.

Also the original reinforced mounting point in the wheelarch was in the wrong place for inertia reels so I had to fit a reinforcing plate in a slightly different position

pete i thought there was an issue with rear cubbys but unsure, did you fit a plate both sides to double up then weld seams to make solid . im going to try and use my cubbys if i can as they are in excellent nick and they will be retrimmed anyway without pockets but with speakers .
matt and andrew thanks for the heads up i will look about and see who has the best deal its probably the same manufacturer any way i guess.

Probably 14 years ago that I did it but from memory I think I fitted a single thick plate on the outside.

russ sent me a picture of how he fitted his belts,im going to copy that way of fitting ,they pull from the top,not like the other way pulling from the cubby panel,my brother has belts that pull from the cubby and there uncomfortable on a long journey

I have fitted my belts so they pull from the top and are in the middle of the seat. The anchor (?) is fitted to the wheel arch and comes through the cubby panel, the belt itself is wrapped around the back rest and is bolted to the existing holes just inside the hood well. They are securon belts from RB and have been fitted like this for 6+ years. I can't post any photos because I'm having trouble with my wireless router and can't connect my laptop to t'internet!!
