Hi Klaus. Why not just buy one and you will have the answer to all three questions! Mike.

Yes Mike, that's the easiest way. But I always try to get the parts from 1. class sources in high quality before I order not knowing what I will get.

They are £3.54 from Rimmers; a good source of quality parts and at that price quite reasonable as well, with a reputation to maintain. I'm a bity puzzled why you would want to hunt down a second source for such a low priced part.

LD parts sell a Payen one, I would always go to LD for quality, service and usually competitely priced.

LD & Payen - Unbeatable IMHO.

Many thanks. Part price is not a problem (Ld GBP 2,90 incl VAT). But they charge GBP 9,50+VAT for p&p!! That is one reason for trying to get parts in Germany. And if I can get a Freudenberg seal I would surely invest the p&p amount into quality.

I'm following this with interest. This is the sort of specification type information I want to add to my parts website. I already have one of the bearings info. I wish I had made a note of the oil seal as well when I was doing my front hubs!

This site http://saintgeorgeltd.com/Part-Listi...L%20SEALS.html lists it as

                  Oil Seal, front wheel 38x52.58x7.9
                  The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

I have just taken a spare hub apart. Like Drew says:

shaft dia 38,1 mm (1 1/2"), recess dia 52,8 mm (2"), seal width 9,75 mm (3/8"). The outer dia of the old seal is 52,35 mm.

I will pick up a Freudenberg - Simrit seal tomorrow in Munich typ BASL 38x52x7 mm . Around € 11 incl. VAT. Will let you know if it fits.

Yes it fits. I bought a Simrit 38x52x7 BAUSL 72 NBR 902. € 10,60. This seal has an additional dust lip (see pic).

If you have the choice take a seal with a steel cage or plastic with outside grooves for a tight seat.
