    Door Strip

Having rebuilt Most of the first door we have come to the stage where we need to fit the inner and outer window seals, we've already fitted the felt strip on the inside... But how on earth do we fit the external one? It looks like we'll scratch the new paint if we force it between the window frame and the door top.....
Do any of you fine folk know how this task should be performed????

    Thanks, Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

it's window down to get it in there, place it in from the top then you will need a special tool to lower the clips in and pull them upwards to locate them so as you can clip the trim in place, or do what i did, seal them in with sealer. Put a small thin strip of sealer on the underside of the trim, fit, leave to set and test the following day. mine have been there now for 2 years with no problems.

    link attached for the tool

Fitting the outer strip is a frustrating job. First make sure the strip is straight, in fact a slight bow upwards in the middle is best as this will make sure the ends sit down flat.

Make a tool with a strip of 20x1mm (approx) steel bent at one end into a U shape around a clip.

As Alan says window down, and pull upwards to locate clips. You will drop quite a few into the door in the process. I have a good collection of clips in my door now to be retrieved next time the door card is off.

Hi Andrew, with the right amount of swearing and grazed knuckles(ask Julian) you can fit the clips without a special tool.
You do need to twist your body at some strange angles to do it but it is possible..

It's an easy tool to make and makes fitting them an absolute doddle I made this from some flat bar.

Mines only got less than half of a strip on the drivers side, dont mind buying one but cant risk more swearing and grazed knuckles So will leave I think.

Although I fitted the chrome strips with the tool, how do you get the front clips on? I couldn't see anyway of getting in there with the clip!

I wonder how they did it in the factory too....

              Cheers,
              Mike.

                Hi Mike,

If you're working from inside with the door card off and the door stripped out you can get to that front one - just

                Cheers

Thank you all for the info. Gents....the time has come to make the "clip" tool.

                    Many thanks,

                    Andrew.
