    Lopsided suspension

Hello, can anyone out there tell me what is wrong with my front Suspension, Last year I had a full rebuild from the ground up, bushes, springs, arms, everything. all work done by Faversham classics. when I took the car for MOT the examiner said it was the best work he'd seen under a car with all new nuts and bolts, First class job he said. Now the front left is very low and catching the front wing whenever I go over the slightest bumps as you can see in the pictures, it is striping the tyres, would this be spring failure or shocks?

I would have thought its your strut top mounting, but don't think your body would go that far down when going over a bump.

It looks like you have an unsuitable wheel/tyre combination. The wheel offset is probably too little for the size of tyres fitted. Are they 15inch Challenger wheels?

You may have to go down in tyre width to 195.

I have 195 on mine and no probs, surely if its the tyre size wouldn't both sides have the same prob

          Broken spring perhaps?

Those tyres are 205/65R15 which are probably going to catch on the wheel arches.

yes Chris they are 15inch Challenger wheels. All top mounts and springs are new 100 miles ago, could it be the strut inserts they were not replaced.
and that round rubber thingy under the bonnet that covers the insert is hard when you press it, and the other side is soft. does that mean anything?

Won't be the inserts, but the rubber part of the top bush assembly may have given up. lift the car up on a jack and let the suspension hang and then with a long bar under the tyre try lifting the suspension up. It should be / feel the same on each side with no free movement or noises.

                  Ian.

Lift up your bonnet and take off the rubber gromet which covers the strut top mountingr[ rubber thingy], on both sides and see if the nuts of the shocks are at equal hights

If it's only done 100 miles since a major rebuild, send it back to Faversham's

IMO the shock absorber and its top mounting plays no part in the ride height because it has no thrust when stationary. The spring is contained within two collars, and two rubber pads and that takes all the static load. If the suspension had dropped one side its probably a faulty spring, or broken pad. The antiroll bar also can affect it though if not symmetrical.

Or maybe you are using some very heavy fuel?

I've got Challenger Wheels and had to change 205/65r to 195/65. with spirited driving the rear offside wheel still catches the wheel arch Two strapping teenagers in the back don't help either

My thoughts exactly Bob - why pay for the work to be done to find its gone adrift after that sort of mileage?
                              Cheers
