    Engine stalling at speed

I was travelling back from Stoneleigh the other weekend (240 miles round trip) and got to approx 1/2 mile from my house when the car stalled whilst i was doing about 20mph, not sure if the ignition light came on though.no spluttering or misfiring just one second fine and the next the engine had cut out.
i pulled over and restarted first time and drove home.this has now happened twice more once when cold and still on choke the other was about 3 mile into a journey, all times the car was moving at about 20mph and restarted first time.

The car is standard apart from lumenition, i was thinking about changing the coil first but does anyone know what the resistance should be with Lumenition?
Also the fuel cut off swich has been removed by PO

    Any other idea's/theories welcome.

    Thks
    Tim

Sounds electrical i.e ignition side of things to me,as no spluttering which normally comes with a fuel problem..
I think there can be problems with Lumenition modules if I remember correctly

Sounds like a typical Lumenition intermittent fault.

Could be a dirty inertia switch.

Yes the inertia fuel cut off has been bypassed.

I will change the coil and test drive once the temp gets above zero

for such a general failure its got to be fuel, king lead from coil to dissy, coil or ignition module.first 3 are easy to eliminate so try these first

Something that I experienced and, I think, nobody's mentioned is the three wire Lumenition connector just outside the distibutor.

I experienced similar problems and the guys at Lumenition recommended that I tightened up the female connectors in the plug. I didn't think it would fix it but I did what they said and, guess what?, problem solved

Go on, give it a ty.

                    Good luck.

                    Cheers

His does sound like an intermittent connection somewhere.

If the rev counter still shows a reading when the engine cuts it is probably the king lead.
If the rev counter falls to zero I would start with the lumenition three pin plug (cheapest option, common problem) followed by the coil as V8s tend to eat coils in my experience.
Make sure all the leads in the ignition circuit are tight and not corroded, including the earth for the lumenition as I have had this cause failures more than once.

Repeating 2 replies already given, I also had similar problem (intermittent cutting out), and it was the Lumenition 3 pin connector. Slide a very small (jewellers) screwdriver down the outside of the female connectors adjacent to the slit, and gently squeeze them in.

I'm with Julian on this one.
Iffy connections on the Lumenition 3 way plug.

I have had this happen to me..was doing about 60-70 mph on the M40 and the engine just cut off after 20 minutes into the drive . Stopped on the hard shoulder started first turn of the key. had no problem thereafter.
On inspection on a later date found that the live connection was loose. No problems encountered after the easy fix.
