    Injection ?

Some while back, a couple of Stag folk were developing injection systems for their cars. I wonder how these brave efforts have gone ? I'm particularly interested, obviously enough, in, reliability, performance, and economy. Any thoughts out there ? Martin.

Hi Martin ,Back on it now .Buying ecu this week ,just ordered 8 of these for "Coil near plug " set up and they are capable of firing a masive spark.1509485929324040_1.jpgHave nearly finished my cooling system and was getting my head around the tuner studio software for the megasquirt last night.Cant wait to get it going on my spare engine.Should make the neighbours wonder whats going on.Cheers Steve IMG_2893.jpgIMG_2894 (640x480).jpg

      Hi Martin.

I was the lucky one who had most of the mechanical bits done for me, having bought one of the 6 sets of manifolds and plenun chamber designed by Tony Hart and made by Keith Barnicle in the 80's. It will be controlled by a Megasquirt fully mapped ignition and injection, with O2 sensor and knock control. In theory the system self tunes by feedback from the O2 sensor. I really must pull my finger out and get it finished for the rutting season.

Would be interested to know who apart from Keith have the original Tony Hart systems working?

I really admire Les M and Neil who have made their systems and Stagdad and Alan Thomas who are making their systems from scratch, I don't have the skill or facilities to attempt.

John ,looking around the tuner studio i havent found where to input the firing order yet ,have you found it?
        Cheers Steve

          Steve.

Havent got as far as playing with TS yet but will use the EDIS system you supplied me but will fire No 2 first and work through the firing order. Sorry but away from home till next week, so can't dig deeper.

          John.

              Nearly there ish!
Intake manifold, water manifold finished. Hardest parts being machined and custom fabrications.
              Fuel rail finished.
              Crank pickup finished and fitted.

              Left to do:

Throttle linkages. This is hard with 8 throttle bodies!
              HP Fuel pump.
Air filter arrangement. Eight trumpets straight through the bonnet? Maybe not!
              Buy ECU.
              Playtime!

              Cheers,
              Mike

                Hello Mike.
                apologies for not including you.
                Which ECU will you use?
                john.

                  Megasquirt I think.
Although not many rolling road tuners like it, or will touch it, preferring the 'branded' suppliers.

                  Couple of questions:

                  1. COP systems with eight coil packs. Do these have to be run sequential? If so, how are you picking up a camshaft signal... Steve ?
                  2. Always interested on how people do their HP fuel system. Swirl pot fed by original pump, modified fuel tank etc.

                  Cheers,
                  Mike

Megasquirt has come on a long way and is no longer the cheap andcheerful DIY system it used to be. I chose it as it was flexible and has a tremendous amount of support, but as with rolling roads, everyone as their favourites.
AFAIK all the recent mappable conversions are based on Megasquirt.
I am using a swirl pot fed by original pump as I did not want to cut into the tank. The simplest system is dropping the HP pump into the tank.

Mike ,ms2 will only fire up to 6 sparks so I will go with 4 spark triggers and go waisted spark.other option is go with ms3 which will fire 8 sparks but like you say would probably need cam sensor.
If you do need a cam sensor I guess you could hook up to the old dizzy stub somehow ?think I saw this done on the supercharged stag
                      cheers Steve

I like the look of this:

where are you planning on mounting the swirl pot John?

Yes I think going wasted spark would be easier, even with the possibility of sequential with 8 coils.
I assume the MS2 can cope with 8 coils configured wasted spark then? or does it need modifying?
                          Mike.

Im sure i have read that the ms2 with 6 channels can run a V12 but I have asked Phil at extraefi the question and will let you know.

Yep Mike just had it confirmed they can be fired in pairs by the ms2 as they need a low voltage trigger.
                              Cheers Steve
