    Is it me...?



    Sometimes I find it hard to fathom out peoples perceptions, compare these different models and then recommend to the general public in a best selling daily paper...Grrrr

    (and following on from a recent posting where we still have people saying that they see no need to declare their name , I post my name so there is no possibility of a mistake of who's posting and you don't need to employ a private detective to find out who posted it under a non de plume !)

          There was some recent discussion on Honest John and one of the Posters knows him. Like Top Gear, I gave up on him years ago. I find a lot of his answers total rubbish and this is one of them. As happens a lot, he does not even answer the question asked. I got a Saturday Telegraph last week for the first time in ages and his photo is a lot different to what I remember. Maybe he has aged like me or maybe it is a different person.

            Club Triumph for Stags? Check their forum. Nothing posted in the Stag section since 8th March, and not much over the previous month. Trust me, I've been a member of CT and they aren't a patch on the SOC when it comes to the Stag. But we all know that don't we?

              That's me and I've just spoken to him about this. As is so often the case, things are not totally straightforward.

              Firstly, replies often appear in the paper many months after he actually replies to them and so he couldn't be certain of the details however he is sure that he did originally mention SOC as well as CT.

              Now something that may not be widely known is that all journalist's 'copy' is submitted and then usually edited by 'subs' (sub-editors). The trouble there is twofold: 1) the subs often don't know much about a particular subject and 2) they often have to drastically cut the original article or reply to get it to fit in the space available in the paper. (I've seen examples where the whole meaning of an article has been totally altered by a sub ). In this case that was compounded by the fact that the Telegraph uses subs based in Australia . It would seem that it was they who deleted the mention of the SOC.

              As for the valuation, I mentioned that my car was in pretty good condition, although not concours by a long way, and that if I were ever to sell it then I'd be lucky to get £10,000. His reply to this point was slightly less convincing but he said he was referring to 'investment' grade cars

              Anyway, don't overlook the fact that he said of the Stag "it's likely to be less trouble" and that's something that we don't always hear from journalists

              Needless to say, I gave a big thumbs up to the SOC and I've told him that if he ever gets any other Stag questions then he should give me a call before replying !

              He's a decent bloke, really, but I know he does have thousands of letters and emails to respond to.
